I've pretty much been doing art since I figured out how to use my hands.  Or at the very least, odd experiments that made my parents wonder what kind of a little person I really was.  I clearly remember making "clay" out of baby powder, water, and other things I found when I was small.  As I grew older...lets say 8 or 9, I used every odd trip I went on as an excuse to bring my drawing pad and sketch everything I saw.  The day I realized maybe drawing and art was something I was pretty good at, was when I entered a community college drawing class at the age of 9 and kind of put all the older students to shame with my awesome drawing of a horse figurine from the classroom.  Later on in my third year of college I decided to switch my major to something fun...and somehow it ended up being art.  I took my first printmaking class in 2007 and was hooked (maybe it was all the chemicals haha) I graduated eventually, and well, here I am.

I feel that making art is a very experimental process, thus giving me the idea of my name "Karlauria's Lab," "Karlauria" being a combination of my first and middle names (Karlena Alauria). The best part of making things for me is often developing all the different ideas and figuring out how they will work with the final piece.  Therefore I feel that an artist is something of an experimental scientist in many ways coming up with different formulas for their art in order to produce different results.

The quest continues!
